What’s New for the 2018 Honda Pilot?
The Pilot, which is Honda’s midsize crossover SUV, rolls into the 2018 model year still in its third production cycle and retaining the features of the previous model year. It is still available in five variants: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, and Elite. The first three trims get a 6-speed automatic transmission while the other two trims get a 9-speed automatic transmission. All have a 3.5-liter V6 labeled the J35Y6, which generates 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. Idle stop technology is added to boost fuel economy which can peak at 20/27 mpg* by shutting down the engine when at a complete stop. You can choose between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. Going with any trim above the LX adds an “intelligent traction management” system on the SUV for adjusting the powertrain components appropriately to specific road or weather conditions.
The 2018 Honda Pilot is designed as a three-row vehicle. On the Elite, there is a pair of captain’s seats in the second row to keep maximum capacity at seven people. The others have a second-row bench-style seat to bring it up to eight. For comfort and convenience, the crossover SUV starts off with features such as Active Noise Cancellation™ technology, cruise control, remote keyless entry, push-button engine start, a 4.2-inch multi-information color LCD screen, wireless technology for hands-free phone calling and audio streaming, a USB port and auxiliary audio jack for playing music from your mobile devices, and seven-speaker audio with a 5-inch color LCD screen. Options or upper-level features include leather seat trim, driver-side 10-way power adjustability and power lumbar support, a two-position memory system that is also for the driver’s side, one-touch power-folding second-row seats, heating and ventilating capability on the seats, a smart entry system, remote engine start, tri-zone automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a garage-door opener, an 8-inch high-resolution screen in place of the 5-inch, HD Radio™, Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ for smartphone-based control, hands-free text messaging ability, HondaLink® remote connectivity, a trial subscription to SiriusXM® satellite radio, a second-row rear entertainment system, and a voice-activated satellite-linked navigation system. For safety, the 2018 Pilot starts off with features such as vehicle stability control, hill start assist, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist, a multi-angle rearview camera, and daytime running lights (DRLs). Airbags consist of two front impact, two side-impact, and two side-curtain airbags. The EX level is where the DRLs are upgraded from halogen bulbs to LEDs and LaneWatch™ is added to supplement the side mirrors with a camera system. The Pilot also gets adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation braking, forward collision warning, a front and rear parking assist system, lane departure warning, and road departure mitigation if you go with the Touring or Elite. Unique to the Elite trim are auto high beams and a blind spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert.
