Performance

The Clarity’s hybrid powerplant ties together of a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine and an electric motor that together output 212 horsepower and 331 lb-ft of torque. The vehicle provides four selectable drive modes: Econ, Normal, Sport and HV. The Prius Prime is equipped with a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine and two electric motors, good for 121 horsepower and 105 lb-ft. Both vehicles come with a continuously variable automatic transmission in a forward-wheel drive configuration. However, the Honda has almost double the maximum EV driving range (47 vs 25 miles) and offers a larger federal tax credit ($7,500 vs $4,502).

Dimensions

The Clarity Plug-in sedan is a larger vehicle than the Prius Prime hatchback. On the outside, Clarity surpasses Prius Prime for wheelbase. length, width, height and tire size. The cabin of the Honda is seat’s five to the Toyota’s four, but still provides more rear legroom, as well as more front and rear hip and shoulder room. Clarity has extra total passenger space (101.5 vs 91.5 cubic feet).

Features
