What’s New for the 2019 Honda CR-V?
One of the first compact crossovers ever created, the Honda CR-V is still the vehicle to beat in this segment. So far, it has enjoyed four production cycles, and it is currently in its fifth, which began in 2017. The 2019 model year is virtually unchanged from the other two fifth-generation models; only the addition of an exterior color finish distinguishes it from them. The 2019 CR-V is available as an LX, EX, EX-L, and Touring trim.
The LX trim is the only one powered by a 2.4-liter inline 4-cylinder (I4) engine, which generates 184 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque. Powering the other trims is a 1.5-liter turbocharged I4 with 190 horsepower and 179 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are tied to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Front-wheel and all-wheel drivetrains are available. With two rows of seats to accommodate up to five occupants, the 2019 Honda CR-V supplies 105.9 cubic feet of passenger volume on the EX; 102.9 cubic feet on the EX and EX-L; and 101.6 cubic feet on the Touring. Standard cargo volume on the compact crossover is measured at 39.2 cubic feet, although you can expand it to 75.8 cubic feet by folding down the rear seats. At the EX trim level, you will get heated front seats and a 12-way power driver’s seat with 4-way power lumbar support. Leather upholstery, 2-position memory on the driver’s seat, and 4-way power on the front passenger seat appear on the EX-L and Touring. Standard interior amenities on the vehicle include cruise control, Bluetooth®1 wireless technology, four-speaker audio, a USB port and an auxiliary audio jack for connecting portable media devices, and a 5-inch color LCD screen. At the EX trim level, the CR-V is improved with dual-zone automatic climate control, a driver information interface, push-button engine start, an additional USB port in the front and dual charging-only USB ports in the rear, six-speaker audio (instead of four), a 7-inch color touchscreen (instead of the 5-inch), HondaLink®2 remote connectivity, hands-free text messaging ability, smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay™3 and Android Auto™4, and a trial SiriusXM® satellite radio subscription. Getting the EX-L further boosts the vehicle with an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a universal home remote, and eight speakers (instead of four or six). Unique to the Touring are HD Radio technology, a satellite-linked voice-activated navigation system, and a 9-speaker stereo system. Standard safety features on the CR-V include vehicle stability assist, traction control, an anti-lock braking system, electronic brake-force distribution, brake assist, LED daytime running lamps, a multi-angle rearview camera, auto high beams, and six airbags. On the EX trim and higher, Honda adds the Honda Sensing® suite of driver-assist technologies that include road departure mitigation, collision mitigation braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. Also added on the EX, EX-L, and Touring are blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
