What’s New for the 2018 Honda Civic?

Named a 2018 Best Buy by the judges at Kelley Blue Book, the 2018 Honda Civic is definitely a good value. Choosy shoppers love all of the choices, including three body styles, many trims, and four engine packages. Budget-minded consumers appreciate the pricing and money-saving fuel economy. High safety scores and affordable collision avoidance features wrap up the deal quite nicely.

PERFORMANCE

Fuel economy numbers suggest that you won’t stop at the pump very often. At their most efficient, coupes earn 39/28 highway/city mpg, sedans earn 40/28 mpg, and hatchbacks earn 38/29 mpg. Still this emphasis on efficiency doesn’t mean the Civic is boring. Reviewers point to good performance and handling at all levels. You’ve got many ways to power your Civic. The affordable base edition has a 158-horsepower engine. EX-T editions add a peppy turbo with 178 horses under the hood. Sport hatchbacks have their own 180-horsepower turbo. Civic Si sedans and coupes are rated for 205 horsepower. These swift machines have a standard adaptable suspension, a surprisingly affordable benefit in this class. Civic R hatchbacks have a Track and Drift mode. The engine spits out 305 horsepower, creating an excellent weight-to-horsepower ratio.

INTERIOR

When you climb inside the cabin, it’s easy to see why the Civic earned the number one ranking at U.S. News and World Report. It may be a compact car, but material build is high quality, both rows are remarkably spacious, and must-have amenities are standards. This includes dash tech, a programmable thermostat, a split-fold second row and a rearview camera. Lightweight, wide-open doors make entry and exit easier. Higher editions pile on favorites such as heated seats, a power-adjusting driver’s chair, and leather upholstery. Coupe trunks measure 12 cubic feet while sedans are rated for 15 cubic feet. Adding ten more cubes, the hatchback hold is rated at 25 cubic feet and can expand to 46 cubic feet.

SAFETY

Through the use of cameras and electronics, HondaSensing helps the driver avoid a collision situation. This package, available on the base edition, includes a lane departure watch and a forward collision warning. An autobrake can reduce speed quickly and help avoid an accident. Unique to Honda, Road Departure Mitigation vibrates the steering wheel to get the driver’s attention. It combines a steering assist function and an autobrake to help the driver. Another Honda exclusive, the LaneWatch system eliminates the right-hand blind zone. The Lane Assist will help straighten the Civic within its lane lines. Adaptive Cruise Control includes a low-speed follow, making it as useful on city roads as it is on the highway.
